“Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther King could walk. Martin Luther King walked so Obama could run. Obama’s running so we all can fly.’ These were the impassioned words of Jay Z in support of current president Barack Obama in his run to be President of the United States. Now Black History Month is upon us and the question of the era’s relevance is in the air. I personally believe that it is still relevant;
I cannot stress the importance of celebrating, elevating and educating the youth of today of their predecessors, the very people that paved the way for us all to even ride on the same bus as others. Although it is said that one month may not be adequate to really accomplish the education and remembrance of these great figures along with the history of black people and culture, I believe that guidance is key to shaping any individual and if you do not know where you came from, how will you know where you are going? Black History Month Forever…” - Ikes
