Top 10 Beefs/Misunderstandings of 2009
Posted on 08. Dec, 2009 by admin in Entertainment, Music
Beef, the cornerstone of publicity, record sales and bufoonery; but hey, controversy sales. 2009 saw beef taken to new levels with animation, family involvement, punches and personal video messages to accompany the usual smack talking over radio stations and diss records.
Trey Songz and R.Kelly are the latest to go at it with the former making a diss record at the beginning of the year only for Kellz to respond with his own wise words. Say what we want but as much as we cant stand for beef we seem to always be enthralled by it (ask Tiger Woods and the Media). Pbleepd countdown the top 10 beefs and misunderstandings of 2009.
10. KERI HILSON VS BEYONCE/CIARA
Prior to the release of successful album “In A Perfect World“, Keri Hilson was generating a plethora of buzz and anticipation then came the untimely release of the “Turnin Me On” Remix featuring Lil Wayne & T-Pain. Much was made of the lyrics with many suggesting she was taking digs at both Beyonce & Ciara
“I ain’t tryin’ to start no mess there’s just something on my chest that I need to get off/
Your vision cloudy if you think you the best/
You can dance, she can sing, but need to move it ‘to the left/”
“She need to go have some babies. She need to sit down she fading.”
“Go head tell these folks how long I been writing your songs… I been putting you on… check the credits hoe!…If you want me you can find me in Decatur hoe”
Mmm Mmm Mmm. Suggestions from all corners linked the lyrics to Ci-Ci and Bey claiming that Hilson was sending sumbliminals. Though released over the internet by Polow Da Don, Hilson found herself under much scrutiny and denied any involvement (click here), Ciara responded with humility (click here) whereas Bey refused to comment on the matter. Beef? probably unlikely but dont be surprised if something resurfaces in the new year.

9. KANYE VS THE WORLD!
Dubbed by Complex as “the most brand in the universe”, introducing two stars to the world (Kid Cudi & Mr Hudson) and sporting one of the hottest women on the planet on his arm (Amber Rose) Kanye was having an exceptional year by anybody’s standards. Then came one of the standout moments of 2009. Indeed Beyonce had one of the greatest videos of all time…..of all time, but you’re not supposed to say it during the middle of teen country singer’s speech. (click for moment here)
Indeed Kanye received backlash from the media, peers and fans alike. Though his future isnt in jeapordy by any stretch of the imagination he has been ridiculed and the jury’s out on whether he can emulate album sales of past glory.

8. JAMIE FOXX VS CYRUS FAMILY
Jamie Foxx probably didnt think anything of it when he dissed Miley Cyrus on his radio show in March earlier this year. However as soon as word hit that the young pop star, daughter of legend country singer Billy Ray Cyrus had been the subject of a verbal grilling, it was front page news. Billy Ray was none too pleased with the incident and rightly so; hilarious as it was, picking a mid-teen to diss is touchy territory when you’re using foul language. Foxx’s apology was not accepted but it was sincere.
The Diss
The Backlash
The Apology

7. BEANIE SIGEL VS JAY-Z
Usually beef with Jay-Z falls down to jealousy or minor domestics but this one is oh so personal. Beanie Sigel claims that after years of friendship Jay doesn’t return his calls anymore, is only worried about making money and not friends, has done things that would make Beyonce look at him differently and snitched on him.
Bars in Jay-Z’s brilliant track “Already Home” is seen as a swipe at his old Roc-A-Fella labelmates which has forced Sigel to come out and expose Jay-Z for only being interested in his own well being and not helping others. From not visiting Sigel in jail to abandoning State Property, Jigga’s not a liked figure right now. With Beanie affiliated with 50 Cent now, who knows how far this alleged exposure may go?

6. PEREZ HILTON VS WILL.I.AM
So one of America’s most famous bloggers Perez Hilton gets into an altercation with Black Eyed Peas frontrunner Will.I.Am outside of an awards show after-party in Canada. Both went back and forth with verbal abuse until Perez Hilton hit Will.I.Am with those schoolboy words “You’re not a f****** artist you’re a f****** faggot“. The crowd go “oooooo” (probably). Then there is a chaotic melee where Perez gets punched in the face allegedly by Will.I.Am or one oh his bodyguards.

5. AMELLE BERRABAH VS KEISHA BUCHANAN
Although both parties have smartly laid the situation to rest without giving much, speculation suggests that Amelle of the Sugababes threatened to quit the group after not being able to form a professional friendship with Keisha who was branded as a bully. Keisha who was the last original member of the Sugababes was reportedly involved in a bust-up with Amelle on more than one occassion, the most recent lead to Amelle not showing up at a Sugababes gig. Despite denial of such an incident Keisha was perhaps wrongly kicked out of the Sugababes and replaced straight away. The Bully claims continued and Keisha may take legal action.

4.TREY SONGZ VS R.KELLY
Trey Songz’ Death Of Kellz track was a hot topic in 2009 as it not only slated one of the all time greats but it was a statement that Songz is ready to stake his claim at the top of the R&B Tree (got a long way to go). Songz wasnt afraid to back up his words and came out in public and addressed the track on many occassions
Fast Forward a few months later, and the rejuevanted R.Kelly responds with his own words, the most remembered being “Elephants dont squat flies”. This beef has just begun.

3. SOULJA BOY VS BOW WOW
Perhaps one of the most baffling beefs of recent years took place at the beginning of 2009 between skinny rap stars Bow Wow and Soulja Boy. What started off as a competition between two Lamborghinis spiralled into diss tracks, personal jibes and angry video messages. Bow Wow & Soulja Boy’s beef was entertaining if not indication of immaturity in a bored state; both threatened to end each other’s careers and whoop each other on site…didnt happen and the two made up quickly. Was the beef even real? I dunno but it was funny in a stupid way.

2. JOE BUDDEN VS METHOD MAN
Its never a good thing to see two greats going up against each other in these circumstances. Earlier in 2009 Joe Budden demonstrated his annoyance at being further down VIBE’s greatestrapper’s list than the likes of Method Man. This sparked a debate across the hip-hop world with Meth not taking too kindly to Joe’s words branding him a cry baby and stating that he is infact better than him and Joe bites his style. Both took little jibes at each other throughout the year until August when Method’s group member Raekwon punched Budden square in the face backstage at a concert. I think it’s fair to say there was no more beef after that.
Where It Started

1. 50 CENT VS RICK ROSS
One thing you cant deny is that when 50 Cent beefs you, he goes all out. From animation virals, to video messages, to family to commentating over your ex-girlfriend’s sextape 50 will do it all with NO hesitancy. Once again like most beefs it started off with something small and avoidable. Rick Ross claimed that 50 had ignored him at an awards ceremony; he classed it as disrespect and didnt hesitate to diss him for it. Wrong move? possibly, with 50’s mass appeal it didnt take long before the world was watching 50’s comedy skits and the introduction of Rick Ross’ babymother.
Ross responded with a string of diss tracks as well as subliminals on his album release. Ross can claim a small victory with more first week record sales than 50′S Before I Self Destruct. However with the recent footage of 50 and Floyd Mayweather spending quality time with Rick Ross’ kids this beef hasnt reached it’s end just yet.
