Posted on 25. Jan, 2010 by admin in Entertainment, Music
From Klashnekoff to Outkast (50-11), there have been some commercial and semi-undergound classic hooks that we’ve had the pleasure of listening to. As we go into the top 10 it’s important to remember that every hook chosen was down to it’s meaning, it “hook”ed us on and they remain as hot now as they were then
Pbleepd countdown our top 50 hooks of the decade (2000-2009) from 10-1
——
10. Ghostface Killa – Cher Chaz La Ghost
Changing up the lyrics but sticking with the same vocals, this hook was a nice old school contrast to the raw hip-hop verses
———–
9. Jay-Z – Encore
Great track, Jigga brings fire to a hook that was meant to signal his retirement from rap music. Wasnt necessarily produced as a party song but it would become a big favourite in the club scene
———–
8. Kanye West – Jesus Walks
Kanye signified his uniqueness with this dope joint; not many can encorporate Jesus into their tracks and have the whole world listen, but Kanye did.
———–
7. Eminem – Stan
Dido reinforces the theme and story of this track with smooth vocals, it rounds up what was one of the tracks of the decade
———–
6. The Game & 50 Cent – Hate It or Love It
50 Cent has an enviable habit of making catchy hooks, here he collabos with The Game to produce yet another one
———–
5. Jay-Z – I Just Wanna Love Ya
Pharrell adds that old school motown R&B crooner effect to the hook, Jay-Z hits you with another memorable one
———–
4. 50 Cent – Many Men
Great hook encapsulating the story of 50’s close demise. This was 50 at his best
———–
3. Lupe Fiasco – Kick Push
At a time when hip-hop was supposedly dead Lupe Fiasco forced himself on the world with this infectious joint with a catchy and smooth hook over great production
———–
2. Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, Nate Dogg – Oh No
Nate Dogg earns his place as the best hip-hop impresario delivering as always on a hook of one of the best hip-hop tracks of the decade
———–
1. Jay-Z Feat Alicia Keys – Empire State Of Mind
Controversial choice? Not really. Alicia Keys captures the imagination of many as she salutes the city of New York with her belting vocal chords. Apply to this to your city and it works equally well. Inspirational and uplifting hook, Jay-Z did it again.

Oh please this has got to be a joke…thats not even the best New York anthem
Cameron, Mase, Nas, Fab, Fat Joe and Co have all put out better New York Anthems than that….
I want to sue the person who came up with this number 1 for the defamation of Hip Hop
WOW @ Numbers 1 and 3
Aftermath,G Unit and Shady and Dipset and Nelly ruled Hip Hop for most of the last decade and should all be better represented in the Top Ten.
Looooooool @ “I want to sue the person who came up with this number 1 for the DEFAMATION of HIP HOP”
Just clocked ‘I Get Money’ or ‘Boss’ wern’t Top 10!
‘Empire State of Mind’ is too recent to overshadow all the classics! I like the fact ‘Many Men’ is in there and I had a feeling ‘I just wanna love you’ would make the final 10 but I was defo feeling the previous installments of this article more than the top 10…
