Miss Black Britain: Allow Me To Rant
Posted on 24. Nov, 2009 by Jodie in Events
I do not even know where to begin. Put it this way, trouble met us at the door. For one, there were issue with our tickets. For £25, one would think that it would be an easy process, name, tick and ushered in. No! Not at Miss Black Britain. If I am to be honest, Miss Black Britain would not have seen my presence if it weren’t for my cousin taking part. I am supportive of my family and felt it necessary to support.
The stated time for the event to commence is 8pm, so why am I sitting twiddling my Blackberry’s buttons an hour later because the show is yet to start. This really annoyed me, I had set out to investigate what exactly the money from the tickets were spent on and the prizes do not count because I could afford them with my part-time retail salary (No Joke here).
Finally, show time. The judges chosen represented the mixture and diversity of Black Britain, so fair play to the judges. There is one judge in particular that caught everyone’s attention and I must admit it was very deserving. Nia Long managed to curb my annoyance of the tardy start of the event and the lack of organisation. I say, lack simply because there was not any sort of organisation in the first place. It was as if, a group of kids made a decision on the day and went with it.
The show gets underway, just as my annoyance is lowering and I’m singing along with the performer, suddenly all I hear is my voice. Her mic is dead. This is not a talent show put together by secondary school children; there are grown folks behind this project. Silly technical issues such as these should never happen. It is embarrassing for the artist and the audience. We paid, after all.

The technical glitch did mar the fun only by a tad, but the audience got over it. The swimsuit category gets underway and the wolf whistles confirms these ladies were working it out in the gym. Just as I thought things were on the up, they messed up again.
Question time, the most important aspect of the show to filter through the group to convey the ones with looks as well as a brain. Well, it seemed not all were blessed with Brains and Beauty! Thank God for this section.
Correct me if I am wrong, the first young lady is asked who won Miss England 2009 and her is answer is ‘I dunno.’I do not need to state the obvious to say who won and If you do not know then try watching the news or reading the newspapers sometime. Although, the winner did herself no favours by being involved in a club brawl, once again putting us to shame *SMH* resulting in the loss of her crown.
Even so, a question like that is not suitable to sift through the numbers. It can only give a definitive answer, not one with depth, as you would expect from an individual to illustrate why they are the best to wear the crown. I am left with a considerable amount of reservation as to how the questions are chosen and why some girls were asked interrogatives that could provide one answer.
It is possible this was done to make the favourites got into the next round. There are fifty young women in the final and I know it will be extremely difficult for the judges to remember all of them. So why not ask your top 20 the ‘difficult’ question, which is automatic qualification for the next round. Maybe the conspiracy theories flying around that show was fixed has some truth in them. (Just a thought)
I could possibly write a dissertation as to why the show went down the pan, but I will resign from such a thought. Just like the editors from two high – end magazines that will not be returning next year, I think it is fair to say that I will be joining them. (The things we do for our family, in the words of Cedric, ‘WHY DIDNT NOBODY TELL ME?’

That is supposed to be Miss Black Britain…ouch..who won?
Sheeeeesh - I am yet to hear anything positive about this event which is a shame. Hopefully they can come back next year and put on a show deserved of the name
Jodes the Assasin tellin it how she see’s it; good piece!
Thanks for the heads up! Real and yet entertaining. I’ll make sure you review the next event before I attempt to buy a ticket! Lol!
