Top 20 Female Clothing & Accessory Items of 2009

2009 has certainly been a great year of fashion trends. From high-street retail to turning old school garments into modern popularity, women continue to work magic with the style and look of all garments and accessories.
To celebrate another of year trends I’ve put together a list of the top 20 female clothes and accessories of 2009.

20. Blaze of Glory
Blazers remained big in 2009 for the female contigent and it’s no surprise with the garment’s simplicity and durability, Blazers instantly add a tailored edge to your ensemble and are the perfect accompaniment for an outfit on an evening out.
19. Over my Knee
When winter rolls around these are perfect for keeping your legs warms and with so many different colours and designs to choose from no wonder they’ve proven so popular in 2009. Wear them under boots or with heels and a dress; a stylish alternative to tights on those cold nights out.
18. Sequin Sequel!
Sequins were so hot in 2009. They were on everything from dresses to tops to hats to bags. They add sparkle to any outfit. Definitely a must have trend.
17. Bodycon…con-tinues
A big trend of 2008 continued throughout 2009. These figure hugging dresses really show off you figure which is why we love them! Bodycon dresses incorporated other big styles of the year including floral, sequin, shoulder pads, mesh and most recently VELVET the big trend for late 2009.
16. Head, Shoulders, Shoulders, Shoulders
Yes we’ve all got them but 2009 was all about making a statement with them. The 80s was back in a big way and that means shoulder pads!
15. Legs are in…Leggings
I don’t see leggings going out of fashion anytime soon and 2009 saw the popularisation of the sister to the legging the ‘jegging’. A hybrid of a pair of jeans and a pair of leggings I can honestly say I’m not a fan (they leave very little to the imagination) but loved for their ‘booty enhancing’ credentials it looks like they’ll be here for awhile yet…
14. Animal Magic
People continued to show their wild side in animal print during 2009 and the animal theme went one step further with animal jumpers. Keep your eye out for them in early 2010 so far I’ve seen dogs, stags, pandas and penguins.
13. Hot Lips
Vibrant lip colour reigned this year from ravishing reds to bubblegum pinks your lips had to be saying something!
12. Quilted Cliché
A la’ Chanel, but now they are everywhere making them more affordable. From shoppers to clutches we can’t ‘sleep’ on the quilt trend of 2009.
11. Rule Britannia!
Brits got quite patriotic this year with a host of accessories featuring the Union Jack. I wouldn’t go overboard though just a touch of the red, white and blue.
10. Heavenly Hair
Hair accessories were big business this year from colourful headbands to girly bows it was all about decorating your locks.
9. Flower Power
One of the biggest and my favourite trend of 2009. Floral designs were ‘sprouting’ up everywhere.
8. Come on Brogue!
Fantastic flats were definitely in fashion this year giving our feet a rest from the killer heels. From plimsolls to pumps to suede moccasins and most definitely brogues. Brogues add a hit of androgyny to what’s otherwise been quite a feminine year.
7. Ace Asymmetry
Refusing to even out, one shoulder styles remained a stable of going out dresses in 2009.
6. Top Toggles
Duffle coats are in for Winter 09/10 perfect for keeping warm on those chilly nights…forget Paddington Bear cause in these coats we look cuter.
5. Blue Waves
Seems a bit random because jeans are always in fashion, but summer 2009 saw a denim explosion. From jackets to dresses to playsuits denim fever swept the nation
4. Got my Stripes
I love stripes and luckily in 2009 there were so many to choose from.
3. I am not a Toy…
But I will wear playsuits, because in summer 2009 there was nothing hotter.
2. Roman Style
An undeniably essential accessory of 2009. From sandals to heels you had to have a pair of gladiators.
1. It don’t matter if it’s black and white
Monochrome was massive in 2009, who knew 2 simple colours put together could have such dramatic effects?!
