Creasy’s Premiership Round Up - Week 2

Drogba and Anelka are truly benefitting from their partnership as well as their midfield machine who are firing on all cylinders. Chelsea looked immense in the middle of the pitch, dominating and controlling the game at every possible opportunity. Fulham made a good account of themselves but the gulf in quality was still on show for many to see. The extension of Drogba’s contract is like a new signing, and he is rewarding Chelsea well with good performances and less off the ball / pitch antics. A game for Fulham to erase from their memory and continue with what should be a successful season.
6 points from 9 and they have played 2 of last years top 5, Burnley have arrived. It’s only a matter of time before Everton turn it around and I am sure Moyes has a replacement ready for Lescott. The sooner they get to the infamous 40 point mark, the better. A good performance from the new boys and they didn’t concede. A good ingredient in the recipe for survival.
A very good game showcasing the English talent in the premiership and the depth that DOES exists outside of the top 4. Both managers have continued their brilliant job from last year developing the football of the two London clubs. Personally a draw would have been a fair result, but the premiership is just not fair. Spurs are still flying and two of England’s striking hopeful’s gave a good account of themselves; although it would be interesting to find out what was Carlton Cole thinking for Defoe’s goal?
I know they have issues but Portsmouth were poor on the day; many of the players didn’t turn up and Arsenal looked good taking advantage of it! The only negative out the game for Arsenal is the injury to Fabregas which will probably see him miss their first Manchester date, on Saturday (29th August). Portsmouth need to sort out activities off the pitch to gain some consistency on it. The good arsenal start still rolls on….
Adebayor feels at home at Eastlands already and Given saves Man City the three points. A number of chances went missing, but chances are being created, which is showing that this team may be beginning to gel already. Jarvis has some explaining to do for his one on one miss as Wolverhampton could have stolen something from the game. Their tenacity is something to admire but it will go a long way to aiding the fight for survival.
Jones is finally up and running with two good finishes but Blackburn perhaps deserves something from the game. I have to admit it’s been a good start to the season by Steve Bruce and Sunderland! A very eventful game with Blackburn being disallowed two goals and both correct decisions by the referee, but the performance by Blackburn did deserve at least a point from the game.
Rooney hits 101 goals for Manchester United, Owen hits his third, Berbatov and Nani chip in for a rout… Wigan didn’t deserve the scoreline, but premiership is designed to punish!!! The goals came from players that all have something to prove this season. Wigan were good for their money up until the first goal. That goal opened the flood gates for an onslaught… I still tip Wigan for a good season under Martinez.
Altidore and Ghilas add excitement and competition to the Hull attacking line and to the fans delight; both combining for a good win! The two rejuvenated the game with their appearances, and added pace and create movement to Hull side that predominantly depend on just Geovanni for creativity. These two could be great business for Phil Brown; so far so good.
Nothing to write about!!! No score draw!!! Tutt Tutt
All may not be lost for Liverpool in the title race. Arsenal and Manchester United may lose more than two to three games between now and the end of the season. Chelsea look like the team that might repeat Liverpool’s feat of last season and lose only one or two games. Aquillani’s arrival and comfortability in the midfield is now imperative for Liverpool. Lucas is not good enough! Kuyt is not consistent enough and as for Babel….he should have joined Wenger and Arsenal (to think he was miles ahead of Walcott in 2006 etc)…. Gerrard might need to sit alongside Mascherano, while Benayoun goes behind Torres until Aquillani returns. There’s just no creativity from deep. A thin squad that needs bolstering for a premiership challenge, I still see Liverpool going on a long unbeaten run. Aston Villa, the other team in this game played very well, Beye one of the few heroes.
